Dental Sealants

A dental sealant is an acrylic coating applied to the surfaces of your teeth, designed to enclose the surface of the tooth. Why would you want to seal your teeth? Teeth have grooves and pits in them which naturally are more prone to get food and plaque stuck in them. A sealant keeps food particles and plaque from causing damage to your tooth enamel and teeth. Additionally, sealants will protect your teeth from acids that weaken the enamel of your teeth.

The process of sealing a tooth is generally very quick and takes a couple of minutes. The sealant will eventually wear off but can last for several years. Once the sealant has worn off, applying another sealant is once again a simple process.

Choosing to get sealants can save you from having to get fillingscrowns, or even a root canal. Sealants are such an inexpensive and painless process that there is no reason not to get your teeth sealed. It is a general part of maintaining great dental health and inexpensive.
