Denture Care

Denture Care

You should only trust a dental professional with your dental health. Additionally you should not attempt to adjust your dentures on your own. We have all sorts of do-it-yourself denture care mishaps over the years. Dentures are specifically tailored to your mouth. It is normal to need adjustments from time to time but only entrust adjustments to your local trusted dental care provider.

Do not brush your dentures with a medium or hard bristled brush. You should only use a soft bristled brush.

Do not use toothpaste on your dentures. Use a denture cream. Denture creams are specifically formulated to not be too abrasive. Toothpaste will actually scratch the surface of your dentures which can lead to a degraded appearance. It can also allow for additional bacterial growth.

Do not rinse with hot water. Do not soak in hot water. Hot water will cause your dentures to become warped. We have seen people attempted to adjust their denture fit with hot water, this never ends well. Rinse with cold water only.

Look at your dentures regularly to see if you can identify teeth that have become worn down. If you notice a worn tooth or teeth, consult with your dental professional. Worn teeth can cause your dentures to not function properly.

If your dentures are causing friction with your gums, consult with Shuayb Dental immediately. Loose dentures will cause unneeded pressure on your gums or even bones.

When you are not wearing your dentures place them in denture solution. This will keep the dentures from drying out which can cause their shape to change.

If you are concerned with the cost of new dentures, check with your insurance agency. A vast majority of insurance providers will allow you to receive a new set of dentures every so many years. Your dental insurance may just cover the cost of your dentures.
