Dental Implants

Shuayb Dental

Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved. The implants are tiny titanium posts which are placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. In addition, dental implants can help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration which occurs when teeth are missing.

Dental implants are changing the way people live! With them, people are rediscovering the comfort and confidence to eat, speak, laugh and enjoy life.

Evaluation for Dental Implants

If, like many others, you feel implant dentistry is the choice for you, we ask that you undergo a dental/radiographic examination and health history. During these consultation visits, your specific needs and considerations will be addressed by either Dr. Shuayb or by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon referred by our practice. Your questions and concerns are important to us and our team will work with you very closely to help make your procedure a success.

Dental Implant Procedure

Dental implants are metal anchors, which act as tooth root substitutes. They are surgically placed into the jawbone. Small posts are then attached to the implant, which protrude through the gums. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth.

For most patients, the placement of dental implants involves one surgical procedure. First, implants are placed within your jawbone, and a healing abutment is placed to shape the tissue for the next step in the restorative process. For the next eight to ten weeks following surgery, the implants are beneath the surface of the gums, gradually bonding with the jawbone. You should be able to wear temporary dentures and eat a soft diet during this time. At the same time, your restorative dentist designs the final bridgework or denture, which will ultimately improve both function and aesthetics.

After the implant has bonded to the jawbone, the restorative phase begins. Dr. Shuayb can then start making your new teeth. An impression or 3-D scan must be taken. Then posts or attachments can be connected to the implants. The replacement teeth are then made over the posts or attachments. The entire procedure usually takes ten to fifteen weeks. Most patients do not experience any disruption in their daily life.

CT Guided Implant Surgery

Dental implants are typically planned by using a combination of both a clinical evaluation and careful examination of any available dental x-rays.  Although extremely helpful, these x-rays only show a 2-dimensional view of the area.  Typically, the “width” component and exact location of important anatomy such as nerves and sinuses cannot be adequately determined.  Dr Shuayb is proud to be able to offer a cone beam CT evaluation at our Spring Hill Location for our patient’s convenience.

This scan can be used to help determine where the safest location to place a dental implant exists. Knowing this information in advance of the surgery not only allows for proper surgical planning, but also helps avoid surprises during the procedure.

CT Guided Implant Surgery incorporates 3-D CT scans, sophisticated computer CAD-CAM software, and biomedical engineering.  This combination enables Dr. Shuayb to virtually plan and carry out your implant procedures with unrivaled accuracy and ease and to provide our patients with the best implant experience for practically all types of tooth replacement needs.

CT Guided Implant Surgery actually allows your procedure to be “performed” virtually in advance of your surgery.  The majority of the work actually occurs when you are not in our office.  During the planning stages of implant treatment, a scan will be taken and Dr. Shuayb will then use advanced computer programs to virtually place implants within the three dimensional representation of your mouth in the safest and most ideal positions.  These implant positions can be shared in advance with your general dentist so that your treatment is meticulously thought out from both the surgical and restorative standpoints.  Once the plan is perfected, it is sent to a company that makes a surgical guide.  The guide allows for the implants to be placed exactly as they had been carefully planned digitally.  This surgical guide will only allow the implant to be placed in the predetermined locations.

Guided Implant Surgery is typically performed in less than an hour.  The need for incisions or sutures is often avoided which, in turn, helps minimize post-operative swelling and/or discomfort.  This state-of-the-art procedure can be used for all patients requiring any type of implant restoration from a single tooth to full mouth restorations.

Major patient benefits

  • Increased Predictability and Safety: By planning your treatment and transforming this into a surgical template, there is a much higher degree of patient safety and predictability compared to “freehand” implant placement.
  • Minimally Invasive Procedures: This treatment option reduces discomfort and post-operative swelling considerably for our patients compared to conventional treatment by allowing Dr. Shuayb to truly perform minimally invasive procedures. This treatment method also reduces the number and duration of appointments for our patients, which means fewer interruptions in everyday life.

Had molar removed, implant installed and crown put on during first visit. ALL went well. All this was done as I watched CNBC and Baynews 9 on TV in front of me. Nice distraction!

My family and I have been coming here for approx. 4 yrs. We have had multiple cleanings, crowns, fillings, and implants done. The billing and front office staff are courteous and bend over backwards to assist your needs from scheduling to insurance and payments. The back office staff along with Dr. Shuayb are just as great. If an issue arises they stand behind their work. I highly recommend them.
